How to apply

Admissions

We are delighted that you are considering our school as the educational destination for your child. Typically, children commence their educational journey with us in the reception class at the age of 4. However, we also accommodate in-year admissions for students in various year groups. Our primary objective is to ensure a seamless admissions process for all families interested in becoming a part of our school community.

While the majority of our students commence their studies in September, we maintain a rolling admission process that allows us to accept applications year-round. This flexibility means that children can start their schooling at any point within our academic year, subject to availability. Our admissions process has been designed to be user-friendly, and our dedicated team is available to assist you at every stage.

We cordially invite you to consider Imperial Oak as the place where your child can embark on a journey towards an outstanding educational experience’.

Applying for a place

Prospective parents are encouraged to visit to see the school in action. The school hosts regular open days, which is an opportunity to tour the school, meet the staff and see what we have to offer. Details for open days are published on the school website. Any enquiries regarding ad hoc visits should be made to the school admin office.

Prospective parents from overseas are encouraged to visit the school where possible prior to application. Where this is not possible parents can contact the admissions team to discuss their interest.

Registration

Procedures for Admission of Pupils

Parents may visit the school on designated open mornings. The most effective route for admission is when parents and the Local Authority agree that Imperial Oak Prep School is an appropriate placement for a child, and a joint application is made for assessment.

This involves the Local Authority contacting the school to request an assessment to determine whether Imperial Oak Prep School would be an appropriate placement for the child. The child and parents would then attend an Initial Contact Meeting at the school.

The parent would bring a copy of the most recent reports (where possible) from the previous education provider to inform the meeting. The school will then offer an assessment process which is tailored to the child’s individual needs. Following this assessment, the school’s referral and assessment team will meet to review the assessment.

The Local Authority and parents will then be notified of the outcome of the assessment via an assessment report. If the school decides that it can meet the child’s Special Educational Needs and there is a suitable place available, the Local Authority will be asked to confirm that it accepts financial responsibility for the placement for the admission process to continue.

Following confirmation that the Local Authority will accept financial responsibility for the placement, a Transition Plan is developed by Imperial Oak Prep School in consultation with the child’s parents, current school staff and other relevant professionals. Transition Plans are tailored to the individual needs of the pupil and include social stories to prepare the child for new routines and staff. A start date will be mutually agreed with Imperial Oak Prep School, the local authority and parents.
