We understand the importance of the reception year and recognise the research into high quality early years teaching being vital to children’s future educational success. We provide a supportive and nurturing approach to settling in to ensure smooth transitions from nursery or other settings to school.
At Imperial Oak, children are encouraged to be independent, resilient, and responsible learners. We help them to do this by setting up opportunities for learning which are based on fun, engaging topics as well as children’s needs and interests.
We follow the EYFS curriculum and hold learning through play and exploration in high regard. The three characteristics of effective learning:
- Playing and exploring
- Active learning
- Creating and thinking critically
We follow and expand on the EYFS Statutory curriculum, which includes the 7 areas of learning and development which are of equal importance and are interconnected.
The prime areas are:
- Communication and language
- Physical development
- Personal, social and emotional development.
These prime areas are strengthened and applied through four specific areas.
- Literacy
- Mathematics
- Understanding the world
